The UW Business School named David Burgstahler to the acting dean position to replace Vance Roley, the current acting dean, who is departing to lead the business school at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Burgstahler's appointment, announced this past Monday, will take effect on Jan. 1.

"He is a very experienced administrator in the business school," said acting provost David Thorud. "We are very confident that he will be able to move into the position and provide the leadership that this school needs."

Burgstahler, the current associate dean for the business school's master's program, may have a short-lived term as acting dean, due to the eminent hiring of a permanent dean of the school.

"I expect it to be a short term because we have a number of candidates for the permanent dean position," said Burgstahler.

The search committee is currently interviewing four candidates and expects to have a decision after the first of the year.

"My hope and expectation is that out of this pool ... we will find the next dean of the business school," said Thorud. "I think it will certainly be decided within the next three or four weeks."
