Too much 'eggnog'
A UW Police Department officer observed a man stumbling into the roadway and bushes on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast as he was attempting to walk down the sidewalk carrying a crutch at 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 23.
When the man reached Pacific Street, he stumbled into the roadway and was nearly hit by a car. Afterwards, the officer attempted to stop the man, which caused the man to break into a run in order to get away.
When the officer caught up to the man, he attempted to hit the officer with the crutch. The officer was able to deflect the blow and grab the crutch from the man. As the man was still attempting to fight, the officer waited for backup to arrive before restraining him.
Officers noticed a strong odor of intoxicating substances emanating from the man once he was handcuffed. The man was described as having watery eyes and slurring almost every word he spoke. Officers discovered pieces of identification -- one being his driver's license, showing that he was 20, as well as a fake ID from California stating he was 22.
The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center and received treatment for heavy intoxication.
The grinch who stole computers
The UWPD received word of a burglary in Lewis Hall which occoured sometime the previous night.
An employee had came work at 9 a.m. to find a window in the room open a few inches.
When officers arrived, they noticed that three Dell laptop computers with flat-screen monitors and two docking trays were missing. Officers also noticed items including computer mice, pens and cards lying on the ground in front of each desk.
The building showed no sign of forced entry. The window looked as though it had been left unsecured. The total estimated loss is $6,700.
