'Bad day' bungler

A UW Police Department officer spied a man kicking over newspaper bins and a concrete ashtray, then throwing an orange traffic cone into the road and kicking at the windows of Schmitz Hall at 12:45 a.m. Feb. 16.

After calling for additional backup, the officer contacted the man and asked what he was doing. The man replied that he was drunk and having a bad day.

The man was described as "very uncooperative" and exhibited "hostile behavior" by pointing his finger at an officer's face and yelling.

Officers made several attempts to get the man to right the items he had knocked down. When the man refused to cooperate in any way, officers called for a supervisor.

When the sergeant arrived, he offered the man the option to pick up the items he had knocked over and receive a citation or face arrest. When the man continued to refuse, he was arrested on charges of malicious mischief and transported to UWPD headquarters for processing.

Pharmacy forger

UWPD officers responded to a report of an altered or forged prescription being used at the UW Medical Center's pharmacy Feb. 20 at 8:20 a.m.

When officers arrived, they contacted the pharmacist and a woman who was attempting to fill a prescription. The pharmacist pointed out there was a place on the prescription where the quantity had been altered from three to 13.

The woman admitted to altering the prescription. Officers informed her that altering a prescription was a crime and she was arrested.

Wandering wasted

A UWPD officer spotted a man enter the intersection of Northeast 45th Street and 18th Avenue Northeast against the pedestrian control signal at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 11.

When the officer contacted the man, he was unable to control himself and fell backwards when officers asked him to sit.

When the officer asked the man how much he had had to drink, the man replied "a lot."

The man was given a minor in possession/consumption. When the officer released him, the man's walk was unbalanced and he was seen weaving side to side down the sidewalk.
