'NBA officials' scout looks, not performance

Two men claiming to be with the NBA contacted a woman outside of the IMA at 3 p.m. Feb. 2.

The woman was immediately suspicious of their supposed NBA affiliations. Because the men did not give last names or present credentials, the woman declined to give them anything more than her e-mail address.

Afterwards, the woman began receiving e-mails she described to UWPD officers as "inappropriate." The e-mails reportedly contained comments about how "she looks good" and how the men would like to "get with her at her place sometime."

The woman contacted the UW Police Department because she felt the men had no legitimate business with the NBA and that they may attempt to obtain other women's contact information using the same lie.

The UWPD notified the IMA director about the men's activities. The UWPD is also considering having the woman set up a meeting with the men so police can obtain more information about them.

Late night studying?

A man was found sleeping on the stairwell between Odegaard Undergraduate Library and the Central Parking Garage at 3:40 a.m. Feb. 7.

UWPD officers found the man on one of the staircase's landings and immediately woke him. The man was reportedly relatively cooperative but could not produce any "hard" identification.

The man had been contacted in the same manner last month, so when officers escorted him from the building, they issued a formal trespass warning.

The man then became verbally aggressive to officers when he found out they "would not provide him with a place to sleep."
