Angry over financial aid
At 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, an officer responded to a report of a threatening letter received at Schmitz Hall.
The officer obtained the letter from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. The letter did not contain any direct threats to anyone at the UW, but did explain that the author was very angry about being turned down for financial aid.
The officer contacted the author's mother.
Credit card caper
At 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 15, a man reported to the UWPD four credit card transactions made to the UW that he did not make.
The transactions, all made within one week, were each for $200 and were deposited to two students' Husky Card accounts. Three deposits were made to one student's account while one was made to another student's account that lives in the same residence as the person to whom the first deposits were made. The deposits were made online so only a credit card number was required to make them.
The credit card belongs to a man unaffiliated with the UW who said he has never been to the UW and "never set foot on campus."
The man is working the matter out with his credit card company. The disputed charges will be taken off the man's account and the bank will take the money back from the UW. At that time, the UW will incur a loss of $800.
